What Can Trigger Fall Allergies
With the weather slowly but surely cooling down, many think their allergies will be a thing of the past (until next spring). If only you had such luck! Unfortunately for you, there are plenty of fall allergies that will leaving you coughing and sneezing like it’s spring all over again.
Enduring Hay Fever
Many assume hay fever (late summer allergies) is present only during the late months of summer – August and September. However, this is not true as ragweed (the primary cause of hay fever) will stick around until the first freeze of the year. So just because your calendar says that it’s fall, doesn’t mean you’re out of the woods just yet.
When Allergies Don’t “Leaf” You Alone
Raking leaves is an autumn chore that every homeowner must participate in (unless you like spending money on landscaping). While this chore can be long and tedious during the next few months, the suffering can extend from manual labor to your allergies. Unfortunately, raking leaves will disturb any sitting mold and allergens. So be sure to wear an NIOSH rated face mask when tending to your lawn this fall.
Back to School Sickness
Pollen, mold, and other outdoor irritants are always the main focus when it comes to fall allergies. However, there are irritants within schools that can affect your children. Chalk dust, classroom pets, food allergens, and over-activity during gym class can trigger allergies and asthma attacks. Be sure to have your children tested to find out if they are allergic to anything or not, as well as teaching them what to stay away from if they are.
